Rainbows

When we get out

we might hope that those who said

our love was horrific: polluting

before we went in

might have discovered that love

is more important than gender, or jobs

or who is better than who or who is right

because they might

have seen the dead wheeled away

under the windows of rainbows

along empty motorways

past the queues for bread

to a place where there is at last

no pot of gold.
